Johnston Community Education is about the home, the school and community all working together to address education and community concerns.

The City of Johnston and the Johnston Community School District have partnered to provide programs and services for the greater school district residents.

Register/sign-up for a JCE program
• Adult Education Classes
Classes are offered in a variety of locations, some of which take place in classrooms. If your classroom is to be used, you will be sent a facility schedule or e-mail for the day and time it will be used.

• District Communications
Print communications include The Connection (district newsletter issued four times per year), the school calendar, annual review, tutor directory, district Web site and general brochures.

• Employee Wellness is a committee-based program through JCE with all schools represented. This group works to provide educational and social activities for staff. Opportunities for flu shots and health assessments are provided each year.

• Facility Usage

• Kids/Teen Connection (KTC)
KTC is the before/after school child care program that takes place at each elementary school. Participants attend from 6:30 a.m. until the start of the school day and then again after school until 6 p.m. In addition, we provide care during school vacations, early dismissals and throughout the summer for school-age children.

• Little Hands (Early Childhood/Preschool)
Early childhood social and educational classes. Little Dragon Preschool held at Horizon, Lawson and Wallace West. Two year old learning classes held at Wallace West. Lower income families are eligible for scholar ships to have their child attend preschool and family literacy visits. Call Jana at 515-278-0552 extension 123, if you think you know a family that might qualify.

• Special Events
Eggstravaganza, Fall Festival, Sundae in the Park, etc.

• Summer School
Enrichment and remedial classes offered each summer.

• Summit After School (S.A.S.)
An after-school program for Summit students.

• Youth & Adult Recreation/Education
Sport leagues, camps, clinics, classes, etc.

Johnston Dragon apparel is available at the Johnston Community Education office. Mens’ and womens’ pullover lightweight jackets, purple polo shirts, black long sleeve mocks and adjustable caps. Many with the “flying J” logo. The JCE office is located in the Johnston Administrative Resource Center (ARC) at 5608 Merle Hay Road on the lower level.  Office hours are 7:45 a.m.-4:15 p.m., Monday-Friday.
